The German power metal band, Edguy, never reached the commercial success of other metal bands that helped influenced their sound like Van Halen or Bon Jovi, but they gained a strong, cult following due to their catchy songwriting abilities and powerful performances. Their music often contained synths that created an ambience to their music as well as catchy leads that would be expected to be heard from bands like Europe. The resulting record, Kingdom of Madness, was released in 1997, with Storch departing shortly thereafter. We'll perform a best-of set list, a journey throughout our past, with a lot of fuss and at full throttle! Touted as the heaviest record they had made to date, Space Police: Defenders of the Crown came out in 2014, and was well received by critics. We wanna thank you all for making 2017 a successful year for us.
I mean, as kids we started to play Edguy shows even before we had visited concerts as fans ourselves! It wasn't long before a record company showed interest, and they signed with. And they became more and more. Their live performances consisted of a stage filled with fog and strobe lights flashing all over the stage. Although they were only 14 at the time, the young bandmembers worked on original material, and by 1994 they had released two demos. Sammet returned to his project in 2007, but it wasn't long until the band was back in the studio recording Tinnitus Sanctus. For us, this always felt quite normal, the next step was all that mattered. Their latest album, Rocket Ride, features less symphonic and speed metal elements, and is arguably more orientated towards hard rock.
While he was busy with , the other bandmembers re-recorded their self-released debut, which had become quite a rarity. To express such themes, Edguy sometimes use esoteric and hermetic expressions. Then we started to play shows outside our home town, then outside Germany and all of a sudden we found ourselves touring in Asia, America and Australia on a regular basis, because apparently there were people who liked our music. They continued to produce a record a year, with Theater of Salvation arriving in 1999, while Sammet also worked on a metal-opera project,. They sported long, feathery hair and black leather pants with biker jackets. Jens Ludwig is greatly skilled in playing his guitar and is able to shred his guitar using interesting techniques like finger tapping.

The year 2001 marked their last studio record for , Mandrake, which they followed up with the live album Burning Down the Opera Live. And especially without any line-up changes in the last 20 years! Edguy presented their music with the catchy, simple chord progressions that made the power metal genre so accessible and fun to listen to. By 2017 the band had released another live collection.
These early recordings were sent out to various record companies to no avail. But if you look back now, you will realise how lucky we were! The addition of drummer Felix Bohnke and bassist Tobias Exxel freed up Sammet to focus on vocals. The lead vocalist, Tobias Sammet, has an operatic like voice that is highly rich and epic.
