This should have been a 'Google Labs' feature, opt in. There are both 32 and 64-bit applications. The ability to change background images should have been offered as an option. The new design is pretty frustrating, impractical, irrelevant, a total nightmare. Also, remember that a whole lot of people enjoy using your services without being logged in, so stop trying to provide solutions that require logging in. You only need a wallpaper to load custom files and a video file to turn your desktop into a zombie park.
Having images like this forced on me is using bandwidth I cannot afford to have consumed on such a menial event which I have browsers starting several times a day and on different computers, and the cache is deleted after each session for security reasons, so it must re-download the image each time the search page is visited - did anyone at Google consider this before ramming this at us? That's all I have to say. And your option to change the background to all white, while better than obnoxious pictures, is still unsatisfactory. The videos format support is also added in the wallpaper engine. Maybe Bing is better, but people chose to stick with Google. Obviously this is only a stop gap, the real solution here would be for google to post a link to allow users to remove the background completely, not just replace it with a white background image, which is still a high res image loading. I don't want to upload an image.

The white background does not have the old colored letters. We are humans, let us have the choice before forcing it. Having the same great experience across multiple computers is what I want. The whole reason I use Google is because it's a simple clutter free page that loads instantly. I shall not be using Google today, and so will not see any of your advertising. I'm going to use bing till this is changed. Don't force them on people! You can personalize your wallpaper with your favorite color.
